Radhanagar Beach at a glance
Radhanagar Beach is on Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), reached by ferry from Port Blair. It is the beach people choose for white sand, a forested shoreline and the evening light. It has a netted swimming zone and a view for the sunset.
You do not need a full day here, but you do need to plan the time of day. Most visitors pair it with another island activity, for example a morning water trip, and arrive in the afternoon. If you want a guided day around Havelock, browse Andaman island tours and then keep the late afternoon free for the beach.

Radhanagar Beach sunset: when to arrive
The beach is open to visitors between sunrise and sunset. That is the rule in the 2025 management plan, so there is no fixed closing time such as 17:00 that applies on every day.
Arrive by 16:00
Arrive by 16:00. That leaves time to walk along the sand, find a spot and swim before the light turns orange.
Plan the way back
Sunset time shifts through the year, and the beach is meant to close with it. Ask your accommodation about the current sunset time and arrange your ride back before dark.
Keep a weather plan
Cloud can hide the sun, and rain is heavy during the monsoon months. Do not build a tight schedule around one sunset. Our best time to visit guide shows how the seasons run.

Swimming at Radhanagar Beach
Swimming is limited to netted areas. The 2025 beach management plan provides for lifeguards in the recreation and swimming zone while the beach is in operation. Whether a post is staffed on your day is something you can only see on site.
- Use the released area: swim where the zone is marked and follow the staff on duty. Signs and lifeguard instructions come before anything you read online.
- Do not assume safe water: a beach with a net can still have currents, and nobody can promise a stretch of coast is free of crocodiles. Stay out of water outside the zone.
- Blue Flag is not a guarantee: the beach was certified in 2020, which says nothing about water quality this year.

Getting to Radhanagar Beach
First you need to reach Havelock. There is no road from Port Blair, so you take a government or private ferry. A fast private ferry from Port Blair typically takes about 90 minutes, and the details are on our ferry page. From the jetty, Havelock has auto-rickshaws, taxis, buses and motorbikes. Journey times and bus frequency depend on the day, so ask your host for the current plan.
If you rent a motorbike, check the rental conditions, licence requirements and insurance with the provider before you ride. For the rest of the island, including Elephant Beach and Kalapathar, see our Havelock Island guide.
Diving and snorkeling at Radhanagar
Radhanagar Beach is excluded as a diving area in the 2025 scuba guidelines. Do not expect to book a dive from the sand here. For dives and reef trips, Havelock offers other places, and organised water activities are based at Elephant Beach. Whether snorkeling runs on a given day depends on sea conditions and clearance.
