Andaman weather in short
The Andaman Islands are warm all year. In Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram), the average daily high stays between 29.5 and 32.6 degrees Celsius and the average daily low between 22.7 and 24.9 degrees. Temperature changes little from month to month. Rain is what separates the seasons.
The figures below are long-term monthly averages for the Port Blair weather station for 1991 to 2020. They describe a typical year. They are not a forecast, and they do not apply exactly to every beach or island.
October to May is the preferred travel period and June to October is the time for monsoon tourism. Do not read that as one uniform dry season: rainfall is already high in May.

For most visitors, the practical lesson is simple: January to March is the most reliable stretch for beaches, boat trips and ferry hops, and April is still fairly dry. If you can choose, aim for these months.

Best time to visit Andaman
There is no single best month, only a trade-off between rain, crowds and what you want to do. The monthly figures show three phases.
January to April: the driest months
January, February and March have the lowest rainfall of the year, and April is still modest at 78.0 mm. This is the easiest period for ferries, island hopping and days at the beach. If you plan a trip that depends on several boat transfers, these months give you the most reliable odds. Our Port Blair to Havelock ferry guide explains the routes and how to book.
May to September: the rainy months
Rainfall jumps sharply in May, to more than 400 mm, and stays above 440 mm through September. June to October is the period when activities and ferries on Havelock can be affected. Ferry timetables can be changed for weather or technical reasons, so a booked crossing is never guaranteed. If you travel in these months, keep your plans flexible and avoid tight connections.
October to December: the rain eases
Rainfall falls from 300.9 mm in October to 221.8 mm in November and 111.4 mm in December. These months are still wetter than January to March, so expect showers and check the forecast close to your dates.
Match the month to your plan
A route that depends on several ferries, such as Port Blair to Havelock, on to Neil and back, suits January to April best. A short stay built around Sri Vijaya Puram, the Cellular Jail and the museums is less sensitive to rain, because most of it happens in town. If you plan to snorkel or dive, read our guides to snorkeling in the Andamans and scuba diving before you fix dates. Our Andaman tour packages page shows what runs on the islands.
Andaman Islands weather in December
Andaman in December
December has far less rain than September: 111.4 mm against 505.2 mm. It is still wetter than February, which averages 14.2 mm, and it is not rain-free. You can have long sunny stretches and still get a shower.
If December is your only option, it works well for a trip that mixes beach days with sights. Book ferries and rooms early if you need fixed dates, and keep a spare day before an onward flight in case a crossing is changed.
December rain averages roughly 100 to 115 mm. It is a month with some rain, not a dry one.
